    Jumbospot Hotspot

Posted by Pierre J. Verhelst on 2021 Feb 19th

First hotspot I’ve ever owned. Took a bit of time to setup. Plenty of help was found online for this popular item. I’m very pleased with the results so far.

    Jumbospot MMDVM Hotspot

Posted by Tim Harvey on 2021 Jan 18th

I purchased this unit from DX Canada. This is my second Jumbospot. I purchased the first from ebay. I waited almost 60 days. Dx Canada had this in my mailbox in two days from when I ordered it. There is a learning curve, but a lot of help from PI Star, and youtube. The SD card that comes with it may not work, but is as simple as downloading and burning a new image to the card. This is an awesome device and works well all over the house and down the street. I also do a wireless tether to my cell phone and go mobile everywhere there is a cell signal. My experience is that it uses very little data and I have used it to talk around the world sitting at the campfire in Provincial Parks. At home I power it with a Dollar store USB power supply. This works great with the Anytone D-878 handy and the Anytone D-578 mobile which I use as a base station. The D-578 will dial down to 1 watt and will not swamp the input. Good price, fast shipping, and great service. 73 VE3VTH

    Product looks good.

At this point I can only review that the item arrived intact. I can’t confirm that the hotspot works. The micro SD card that came with the hotspot appears to be corrupt. I cannot get the hotspot to load the software and I cannot get it to connect to my wireless network after following the Pi-Star’s instruction for loading the wireless configuration. I have ordered more micro SD cards and will try a fresh download from Pi-star to see if that is the issue.

    Jumbo spot hotspot, nice

Posted by Robert M on 2020 Nov 2nd

I can't believe how good it works! I have my own wires x hotspot/node and this works just as well believe it or not. I use mine with a Yaesu ft70. I got it mostly for portable use and for dmr which all works good. My only disappointment is that to use dstar you need a dstar radio. There is a learning curve for pi-star use and set-up. Generally I'm impressed though with this little unit.
