    Great little portable antenna

Posted by Michael Babineau on 2021 Aug 16th

I finally got my JPC-12 out in the field and after a couple of days of operation at 5 watts on CW I can say that this antenna works quite well, even on 40m. I have previous experience with Buddipole and Buddistick antennas (this antenna is similar to the Buddistick) and I can say that the quality is comparable. It is worth mentioning that the threading on the joints isn't the "standard" 3/8-24 that is common on Ham and CB mobile antennas. It does seem to be 3/8 inch but the threading is coarser, probably more like 16 TPI instead of the usual 24 TPI. Practically this just means that you want to make sure that you check all of the joints for tightness before operating as a partial CCW turn on any joint could make it seem a bit wobbly. Overall I would say that this antenna provides decent performance in a very compact package at a reasonable price and I would highly recommend it. What I do really like is how small this antenna is when disassembled (backpackable) and how quickly it goes together (10 minutes tops). - VE3WMB

    Works Quite Well

I got mine yesterday and set it up in the back yard using the included counterpoise wires and a couple cut for 40 and 80 meters. I was able to work Alaska and Oregon from B.C. on 20 meters running 10 watts. I was curious to see if I get could get it to work on 80 meters using a couple of coils from a JPC-7 Dipole, which I also own. By putting the 3 coils in series set to max inductance and adding one extension section from the JPC-7 Dipole, I was able to get a match on 3729 kHz and check into the BC Public Service net. Loads of possibilities if you own both antennas as the loading coild and extension sections are the same. I think I will order the grounding plate for this antenna as it will make adding counterpoise wires/radials easier. All in all, a well designed and thought out antenna.

I use this portable antenna locally at city parks. It works quite well as I've been able to check the Noon Time Net

Great antenna. Sets up easily and able to adjust quickly. Recommend the grounding plate as well as easy way to add radials. Set up and got 59 from Slovenia and 57 from Austria with only 30 watts. Great portable package.
