    Pretty freaking good!

Posted by Mike Shoesmith on 2021 Jul 23rd

I will start this off by saying I have absolutely zero interest in DMR; I did not purcahse this radio for that. I wanted a good, solid and versatile 50W rig I could use portable(ish) and mobile. I also do not care about sound quality, this is ham radio, not recording studio. (Having said that, the audio quality is really good). This radio surpassed all my expectations. It is amazing, and I don't have enough time to tell you all the positives, so I will cover some of the ''negatives'': The screen is small, yes. But it is bright and easy to read. If you have sight problems, this is not the radio for you. It's pretty menu heavy, and the menus tricky and require lots of back and forth - BUT, the programmable keys can eliminate a lot of that. It also gets easier the more you become familiar with it. The APRS is beacon only - I knew that going in, but you can only beacon to a digipeater, which is annoying and requires lots of forethought before going out in the bush, is restrictive and won't allow optimal functionality. However, my lack of knowledge of this was probably lack of research and not a knock against the radio. Most of the time, it will be fine for my purposes. Some of the features, especially the APRS are tricky to set up. - Oh well, that's what YouTube is for. If you want a more user friendly rig, drop a few more hundred bucks on a name brand model. For the price, this radio is outstanding, and punches well above it's weight class. And, the price of this radio is great, especially from a Canadian company. Most importantly to me, DXCanada has absolutely amazing customer service, fast shipping and are extremely knowledgable and helpful.

    Great DMR/Analog Radio

DXCanada did an excellent job on getting the radio to me fast, I would order from DXCanada again in the future. As far as the radio goes it was better than what I had expected. Lots of help from AnyTone/Bridgecom Systems to get the Radio going on DMR.

    Anytone AT-D578III PRO

I have owned this radio for about 9 months and had to purchase it from the Powerwerx the NA distributer as it was not available in Canada at the time. I am so happy DX Canada now sells it here as I paid a lot more by having to import it. I will not go into a lot of detail on the specs as there is so much already on the web and youtube. While this may seem to be a lot of money for a Chinese radio, it is the best DMR mobile you can buy IMO. I did a lot of research before I bought it. I have a Connect Systems CS-800d in my truck because it has a detachable face plate and there is not a lot of room in a Ram. In retrospect I would make the D-578 fit. This radio will do everything including receive broadcast FM, weather radio for Canwarn and have the ability to store 10,000 contacts and 300K digital contacts. The audio is loud and clear and the software very intuitive. When I also purchased My D-878 handy from DX Canada, I was able to copy the code plug and with only a few tweeks have it up and running in 20 minutes. I use the D-578 as a base radio and love that you can dial it down to 1 watt to use with my hot spot or crank it up to connect to the DMR repeater 40 KM away. The Powerwerx website has a daily updated download for digital contacts that loads directly into the software. The radio is built like a tank. The price here is awesome and you will not be disappointed. 73 VE3VTH

    Initial Impressions

Posted by Michael Moreau on 2020 Oct 22nd

Did a few weeks of online comparison shopping and reviews. This radio has features compressed into a solidly constructed box. I like the external layout on front panel, buttons and knobs big enough to access. Mic is huge, but due to it being able to control and command the rig. No complaints about accessing buttons. Manual is in better English than you might expect, but lacks some operating sections that would go a long way toward adding polish to product support. Received ahead of promised delivery date, well boxed and packaged. In throes of building codeplug. Software for that is not quite as intuitive and small help notes are not completely shown in window. Data is not easily imported from other manufacturer products and software. Expect to start from scratch. Audio output is LOUD, you will likely dial down the volume setting early in programming. Great however for on road. Not compared specs regarding RF output, but with the limited use given in first week in the shack, no complaints. Will make another post with more details once installed in vehicle and on road operation. Rated 4 until I do that and get a bit better understanding of programming and features. So far, it compares better than other local operator rigs.
